100 Thieves parts ways with support player Aphromoo

North American esports organization and lifestyle brand 100 Thieves has announced the departure of support player Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black from its League of Legends roster. The 27-year-old joined the Thieves in 2017, after previously playing for fellow North American esports organization Counter Logic Gaming.

Aphromoo leaves 100 Thieves

“Farewell Aphromoo. Zaq, these past 2 years have been filled with memories we’ll never forget,” wrote 100 Thieves on Twitter. “Thank you for being one of the first pro players to take a chance on 100 Thieves when we were a brand new team. We wish you nothing but the best moving forward.”

On Nov. 20, 2017, 100 Thieves secured a franchise slot in the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) in partnership with the NBA Cleveland Cavaliers team. Aphromoo was part of the initial roster, alongside players like William “Meteos” Hartman, Ryu “Ryu” Sang-wook, Cody “Cody Sun” Sun, and Kim “Ssumday” Chan-ho. The team went on to place first during the 2018 North American LCS Spring Split but fell to Team Liquid in the Spring Split Playoffs. 100 Thieves then placed 3rd during the 2018 Summer Split, 4th in the Summer Playoffs, and 9 – 12th at the 2018 World Championships.

Return of initial roster

Even with the addition of Bae “Bang” Jun-sik to the roster, the team finished in dead last during the 2019 LCS Spring Split. The 100 Thieves roster then ended off the 2019 year with 8th place in the Summer Split, after trying out several different roster combinations. Since then, Ryu and Maurice “Amazing” Stückenschneider have left, with Bang being transferred to North American esports organization Evil Geniuses.

With Meteos returning and rumors that Cody Sun will also do the same, will former Academy player William “Stunt” Chen replace Aphromoo? Or will we see 100 Thieves utilize their remaining import slot?
