One of the biggest bombshells of the year has just been dropped, as 100 Thieves has reportedly purchased a Call of Duty League spot. The spot was previously held by OpTic Gaming and Immortals Gaming Club. However, former CEO of OpTic, Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez, supposedly bought back the OpTic brand earlier in the month. With the Los Angeles spot up for grabs — since H3CZ is likely staying in Chicago — 100 Thieves reportedly entered the mix. Although founder Matt “Nadeshot” Haag stated that the organization didn’t have the finances for such a move, sources are saying the LA Thieves is now a reality.

OpTic Gaming CDL spot reportedly sold to 100 Thieves

According to sources, this deal happened fairly recently. The catalyst behind it was likely 100 Thieves releasing its CS:GO roster, which freed up some money to place elsewhere. While not confirmed by any official channels, that money appears to have been spent on a CDL spot.

Previously thought to be out of the realm of possibility, the LA Thieves are reportedly entering the CDL in 2021. If true, this would be 100 Thieves’ third entry into Call of Duty esports, as they fielded a roster in 2016 and during the Black Ops 4 season.

When the reports of H3CZ buying back the OpTic Gaming brand and the CDL spot with it, many fans assumed 100 Thieves would be in the mix to purchase it. After all, Nadeshot and H3CZ are extremely close friends and the 100T founder has expressed interest in the CDL.

However, it was thought that 100T didn’t believe the league was worth the investment. Although, that mindset appears to have changed now that the organization let its CS:GO roster go and a spot in its hometown of Los Angeles has opened up.

As for what this means for H3CZ and OpTic Gaming, it’s unclear if the league will allow a rebrand of the Chicago franchise. Now known as the Huntsmen, it would seem foolish for H3CZ to not try and rebrand the team to the OG colors. Although, this might be forbidden by Activision, so we’ll have to wait and see how that plays out.

This is an ongoing story and we’ll be sure to let you know if either 100 Thieves or the CDL confirms the report.
