The 2019 LPL Summer playoffs are set to begin Aug 22. Eight of China’s best teams will compete for their share of ¥3.5M (~$521,000 USD) and a qualification spot for the 2019 Season World Championship. The first-place team will take home the grand prize of ¥1.5M (~$212,000 USD) and the title of LPL Summer Split champion.

Who is competing

From the 16 teams who entered the LPL Spring Split season, 8 teams remain. The following teams have qualified for round one of the quarter-finals:

  • Edward Gaming
  • Suning
  • Invictus Gaming
  • LNG Esports

The most notable names here are the 2018 world champions Invictus Gaming and the team of Edward Gaming. Edward Gaming has been one of the teams that have been around the longest. The organization joined the LPL in 2014 and has built a large fanbase in China and the west ever since.

Bilibili Gaming and RNG have both earned themselves a bye to the quarterfinals of the playoffs, finishing 3rd and 4th respectively in the regular season of the LPL. The remaining two teams will go into the event as favorites. Top Esports and FunPlus Phoenix have both had an amazing season, and they are incredible to watch. Both of these teams will receive a bye to the semi-finals due to their regular season results.

The LPL Summer playoffs take place from Aug 22 to Sep 6. Round one of the playoffs will be held on Thursday, Aug 22 and Friday, Aug 23 at 11:00 a.m. CET / 2:00 a.m. PT / 6:00 p.m. KST. It is expected all matches will be held at these starting times, though that has not been confirmed.

The quarter-finals will be held on Saturday, Aug 24 and Sunday, Aug 25. After that, there will be a break until the following weekend, Aug 31 to Sept 1, when the semifinals will take place. The third-place match will be held on Sept 4, with the finals closing out the season on Sept 6.
