For nearly a year, we heard leaks and rumors surrounding Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. From varying release dates to specific pieces of content, it seemed like a new rumor popped up every month or so. Well, yesterday, we finally received some official news with the release of the Modern Warfare 2 Campaign. Remastered in high definition, the story is every bit as amazing as it was in 2009.
However, fans were disappointed to see that only the Campaign arrived with Modern Warfare 2 Remastered. Why did Activision purposefully leave out the beloved multiplayer mode?

Fans who were following the rumors of Modern Warfare 2 Remastered knew that multiplayer likely wasn’t arriving yesterday. Some held out hope that Activision was keeping it a well-guarded secret, but to no avail.
While the Campaign is a blast to play through again, it simply doesn’t match the enjoyment of multiplayer. From classic maps like Highrise and Rust to beloved weapons like the Intervention, not much can hold a candle to MW2 multiplayer.
Many are wondering why Activision decided against releasing the mode. Well, the company addressed this question in one of its blog posts from yesterday. Here’s a quote from that post regarding the multiplayer mode:
“Rather than release a separate, multiplayer experience as a standalone pack, Activision and Infinity Ward are looking to bring more classic map experiences to new life within the Modern Warfare universe as it continues to grow and build over time.”
This lines up with a leak we reported on earlier in the week. It seems like Activision is committed to the community continuing to play Modern Warfare in 2020 and beyond. To keep interaction levels high, the company will be introducing Modern Warfare 2 maps into the rotation on a regular basis.
Of course, this isn’t a terrible thing for players who enjoy this year’s entry in the franchise. However, those that don’t particularly like Modern Warfare‘s gameplay might be even more disappointed.
