Among Us is tackling international diplomacy between Singh and AOC

Back in October, United States Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez promoted voting in the United States by playing Among Us, the social deduction game from InnerSloth. Taking a page from the New York Representative Democrat’s playbook, Canadian NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh will be using this tactic to address important topics in Canadian politics. He has invited Ocasio-Cortez to join the game as an act of what some fans are labeling as international diplomacy.

While on stream Singh will be reaching out to young voters to discuss student debt and his work on raising the federal minimum wage to $15/hr. He will also be discussing public health measures concerning the COVID-19 pandemic.

Singh also invited streamer and political commentator Hasan “HasanAbi” Piker to join the game. Piker and Ocasio-Cortez have streamed before on Ocasio-Cortez’s earlier stream. On that stream Ocasio-Cortez pulled in more than 439,000 viewers on stream on Twitch. Ocasio-Cortez played with fellow Minnesota representative Ilhan Omar and streamers Benjamin “DrLupo” Lupo and Imane “Pokimane” Anys.

In an interview with HuffPost Canada, Singh said it would be “an honor” to stream with Ocasio-Cortez. “[She’s] someone who’s been the head of a movement in the States that’s really given a lot of people a lot of hope, and she’s fighting for people that need champions for them like everyday folks and young people, immigrants.”

More politicians have been breaking into streaming lately. With millions of viewers on Twitch at any given time, streaming is a relatively low-cost outlet for politicians to get their message heard. Singh is looking to replicate the energy that Ocasio-Cortez brought to streaming culture.

The stream will be taking place on both Singh and Ocasio-Cortez’s Twitch channels. Together the two politicians have more than 760 thousand followers on Twitch. The games will begin at 7 PM ET and 4 PM PT. As more politicians interact on streaming platforms, make sure to follow Daily Esports for updates on the events.
