Apex Legends drops ban hammer on hackers and cheaters everywhere

Respawn Entertainment has dropped a huge ban wave on cheaters and hackers in Apex Legends cheaters. According to feedback shared to reddit and on several cheating forums, perpetrators are widely complaining of having their accounts suddenly banned. Those that use multiple accounts have seen all of them locked. Even making new accounts does not help, as they are abruptly shut down. It looks like this ban wave is yet again targeting users’ HWID (hardware ID) to ensure they can’t come back to the game after being locked out once.

One of the largest, if not the largest, complaints about Apex Legends is the hacking situation. In any given lobby, it seems as though there are at least five to ten cheaters who use a plethora of hacks to ruin the lobby. These hacks can run from aimbots, to vision through walls, to an infinite melee attack. This is a monumental issue for both the Apex Legends player base as well as the development team. However, it looks like Respawn is stepping their game up once again.

Cheaters never win

A few weeks ago, we reported that cheaters were receiving permanent hardware bans as punishment for hacking. This was revolutionary at the time, but it wasn’t widespread enough. There were still many cheaters slipping through the cracks. Evidently, the Anti-Cheat program Respawn runs in Apex Legends catches some of these cheaters, but nowhere near all of them.

It looked as though this problem was ramping up yet again, until today. According to a popular Apex cheating forum, many hackers are now reporting that they’ve received bans that they are unable to work around. In addition to this, one user says that “everyone” has been banned.

It’s unclear whether or not this is another form of the previous hardware bans or the same process, but it seems to have been effective. The hackers on this cheating forum are citing that they are unable to even log in to any Origin account. One user confirms he has been “HWID banned,” meaning his hardware ID is banned entirely.

This is huge news for the Apex Legends community, as it seems Respawn is making it a point to ensure the integrity of their game. While it will by no means completely solve the cheating issue, it will further stop both past and future hackers.

It just goes to show, winners never cheat and cheaters never win.
