Astralis rifler Bubzkji ends his contract early after months on the bench

After four months on the bench, Lucas “Bubzkji” Andersen has ended his contract with Astralis, the Danish organization announced. Bubzkji and Astralis mutually agreed to terminate the contract in order to let the young Dane explore other options. He joins TV2, a Danish television channel, as a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive analyst, confirming an earlier report by Jaxon. The 23-year-old rifler will now be free to join other teams.

“Despite joining us in a difficult time, being in and out of the team and only rarely playing his favorite position, Lucas has played a significant role in Astralis over the past two years,”  Kasper Hvidt, Astralis’s director of sports said.

This is my last day as an Astralis player, as I've decided to terminate my contract. Im thankful for some of the unforgettable experience and people i've managed to meet over these last 20 months. It's been an incredibly informative and educational journey.

Bubzkji joined Astralis in July of 2020 from MAD Lions. From then on, he was in and out of the starting roster as Astralis went through a number of temporary and long-term roster moves. One move in particular, a Valve ruling, reduced the appeal of six-person rosters for the Regional Major Rankings cycle. This resulted in curbing Bubzkji’s playtime. When Astralis added Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke and Benjamin “blameF” Bremer in November of 2021, it became clear that Bubzkji was not part of the organization’s future plans.

“[Bubzkji] has been loyal and a true professional throughout his time with Astralis and it would have been difficult for us to maintain a solid level during a time with players on leave and the ongoing development of our set-up,” Hvidt said. “He will always be a highly valued part of our history.”

In an interview with Dexerto, Bubzkji revealed what went on during his turbulent tenure with Astralis, as well as his plans for the future.

“I asked TV2 if they were interested in working with me for 2022, and fortunately they were,” Bubzkji said in the interview. “Many will probably be shocked that I’d rather work as an analyst than play but, right now, this feels more right for me.”

The Dane has not ruled out a return to competitive CS:GO, saying that he would consider starting on a lower tier team to get back into the game.
