Baku and Genn Hall of Famed in Hearthstone

Last year with the release of The Witchwood, Hearthstone introduced two new build-around legendaries that have since warped the game: Genn Greymane and Baku the Mooneater. These cards upgraded your hero’s Hero Power if you filled certain criteria (playing only even cards for Genn, and only odd cards for Baku). Countless discussions ensued among players regarding these two cards — about how their abilities led to incredibly consistent power for such a manageable cost, and about how they make the game boring. Fortunately, with their Year of the Dragon announcement, Blizzard has decided to Hall of Fame these cards, removing them from play and providing a full dust refund to players.

The Hearthstone team explained that they felt Baku and Genn were far more prevalent in Standard than they had hoped, and that their inclusion in the Standard meta going forward may overshadow some of the cool things they plan to do this year.

Up till now, Genn and Baku have warped the meta around them and have been present in many tier 1 and tier 2 decks. This is evident when looking at the Vicious Syndicate Power Rankings report:

Genn and Baku effected the meta, now they are Hall of Famed

Overall, the community seems to be pretty happy with the change. Whenever a card is Hall of Famed, you get a full dust refund as long as you own the card, so a lot of people are getting large amounts of free dust from this. In addition, we will hopefully see a new meta that isn’t overrun with odd and even decks.

But wait! There’s more!

Not only are Genn and Baku being Hall of Famed, but a lot of the cards that were printed to support them are as well: Gloom Stag, Black Cat, Glitter Moth, and Murkspark Eel.

Again, everyone who owns these cards will be getting full dust refunds.

Conclusion

Thank you all for reading this exciting Hearthstone news! I’m looking forward to a new meta, and a lot of free dust. I’ll see you guys around the hearth!
