Nintendo confirmed the next two DLC fighters for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate during its E3 2019 Direct. Banjo-Kazooie and The Hero from Dragon Quest will join Smash Ultimate as the second and third Fighter Pass characters.
The Hero in Smash Ultimate
The Hero is a generic player character hailing from the Dragon Quest games. His alternate costumes allow him to take the appearance of various different Dragon Quest heroes. The Hero makes use of a sword for the majority of his melee attacks. He also possesses a shield that appears to function like Link’s, automatically blocking weak projectiles.
The Hero has many magic abilities, which he can likely access through his special moves. Among these are Bounce, Kacrackle Slash, Kaclang, Zoom, and Kamikazee. He also appears to feature a unique MP mechanic. When he uses special moves, an MP meter appears above his character icon. The Hero will likely deplete his MP as he uses special moves.
It also seems The Hero can choose between different special moves via a list that appears atop his character icon. These moves include Sizzle, Psyche Up, Oomph, and Snooze. It is unclear exactly how this meter system works. Competitive players will have to wait for later updates to learn exactly how this unique character’s MP moves will work.

Banjo-Kazooie in Smash Ultimate
Long-time fan favorite Banjo-Kazooie was confirmed for Smash Ultimate at the end of the E3 Direct. His trailer was funny and tongue-in-cheek, referencing King K. Rool’s reveal trailer, as well as the common claim among fans that Banjo-Kazooie might be a Duck Hunt echo fighter. Of course, Banjo-Kazooie is a completely unique character in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
When this character runs, Kazooie will carry Banjo atop her back. Banjo will slam Kazooie on the ground for some of their melee attacks. Some of their specials have Kazooie shooting eggs and grenades out of her beak. Kazooie will fly Banjo into the air for their Up-B. Another special has the duo charge forward at opponents.
Nintendo did not confirm the specific release date for either character. However, they did reveal general release times. The Hero will release in the summer of 2019, while Banjo-Kazooie will release in the fall. Players will be able to start practicing with The Hero in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate very soon.
