The teams for the first ever Beyond the Summit Rocket League event have been revealed. With four teams for North America and four for Europe, there are a few pleasant revelations.

The North American teams for Beyond the Summit
The teams for North America were easy to pick. The “big three” in NRG, Cloud9, and most recent RLCS runner-ups G2 Esports are invited, along with Rogue, who had also made it to top-four at the world championship.
Just one question remains, then: With Jayson “Fireburner” Nunez’s retirement, who is NRG’s new third? The community has been speculating for weeks now, but an announcement has still not been made. Allegedly, the announcement will be made this week, but with the week almost over, time is running out. The most speculated name that comes up is that of Pierre “Turbopolsa” Silfver, who left Dignitas after a disappointing season. This would be the first ever transfer between Europe and North America. With his latest tweet he seems to try to bait the community into believing he won’t make it to BTS, only to show up as NRG’s third.
However, NRG’s Justin “jstn” Morales stated during a stream that their new third is a North American player. Whether this is to keep everything on the down low is unclear, considering Turbopolsa’s track record of trolling the community. The European teams
With Europe’s relatively weak run at the RLCS and improvement at DreamHack Valencia, it was up in the air who was going to be invited. Renault Vitality, the new World Champions, are the obvious choice, along with PSG, who won DreamHack Valencia by defeating NRG and made it to day three at the world championship. The other two could have gone to anyone. The Bricks (formerly Flipsid3 Tactics) had made a good run in Valencia but failed to qualify for DreamHack Montreal. Triple Trouble, the other unsigned team, suffered this same fate. Perhaps it was an act of kindness to invite the teams that would have to fund their own trips to Montreal next month, or perhaps Beyond the Summit (rightfully) believes these teams can perform and take the title. Either way, it’s nice to see unsigned teams getting a chance to prove themselves to potential organizations in an overseas LAN without having to spend all their earnings on just the trip.

The talent for the event was likewise announced recently and consists of mostly the commentators and analysts that ran Beyond the Summit’s predecessor, Gold Rush. The most surprising announcement, however, is that of Cameron “CJCJ” Johns, professional player for Oceania’s ICON Esports. He has been hosting immensely popular viewing parties on his Twitch channel during the RLCS, where he offered a good mix of humor and analysis. The other casters include popular commentators such as Gold Rush show runner James “Jamesbot” Villar, John “Johnnyboi_i” MacDonald, Brody “Liefx” Moore, Jack “Corelli” Collier, and Isaac App, formerly known as professional player “Turtle.”
Beyond the Summit Rocket League will be held Aug. 16 – 18 in Los Angeles and will be hosted on their official Twitch and YouTube channel.
