On Day 2 of the BLAST Premier Showdown, Gambit, Spirit and FURIA won their matches while NASR, Extra Salt and MiBR were eliminated from the tournament.

Gambit Esports does not disappoint

The CIS has been on a tear since IEM Katowice and, despite losing against Heroic in ESL Pro League finals, they are the number one team on the HLTV rankings. So, to no one’s surprise, Gambit quickly took down NASR 2-0. However, NASR showed potential in their matches but, with every Gambit player firing off on all cylinders, they didn’t stand a chance.

Extra Salt eliminated

Extra Salt is a newer team consisting of the core of the ex-Cloud9’s North American roster. The team qualified through the VENN Invitational Spring 2021 tournament. Many expected the NA team to do well, considering their recent dominant wins with only one loss in recent matches. However, at BLAST Premier Showdown, the team didn’t know how to counter Team Spirits’ playstyle. Hopefully, in their next European events — FunSpark ULTI and Dreamhack Masters Spring — the team will adapt to counter the European team’s playstyle.

MiBR and FURIA on the same level

MiBR took on FURIA for a Brazilian head to head. Surprisingly, the two teams seemed evenly matched. On map one, Mirage, FURIA got eight rounds on each side while MiBR got seven rounds on each side. Even though FURIA won 16-14, MiBR still looked great. Prior to BLAST Premier Showdown, Paytyn “Junior” Johnson’s AWPing appeared inconsistent. He couldn’t deliver with the sniper rifle. Now, however, Junior’s AWPing looked fantastic with four opening kills and nine AWP kills. On MiBR’s side, Marcelo “chelo” Cespedes had a fantastic game with over 40 kills across the series. However, MiBR just couldn’t close out and FURIA got the edge they needed to win.
