Bueno da Silva, who went by the in-game name Sol, was found dead in a home in Pirituba, a neighborhood in the north of São Paulo. Guilherme Alves Costa, known by his in-game name Flashlight, was arrested in connection with the killing. A video of police officers placing him in handcuffs includes some comments on the crime.

“Yes, I know. My conscience is very able,” Costa said in Portuguese (translated into English by Victor Hugo Porto of Mais Esports) when asked if he remembers what happened. The person recording the video then asked Costa why he committed the crime. “Because I wanted to,” he replied.

Reports say that Costa met Bueno da Silva online one month ago and that he invited her to his home in Pirituba, where he allegedly killed the fellow Call of Duty: Mobile player. He then shared a video of the incident with a WhatsApp message group.

Dozens of players, coaches, fans and others shared their messages of mourning and support on social after Bueno da Silva’s death. Bueno da Silva competed in Call of Duty: Mobile for FBI E-sports, a small organization based in Brazil. The group shared a video of the team participating in a ceasefire within a Call of Duty: Mobile server in dedication to Bueno da Silva. Several of her teammates also shared their grief online.

“I will never forget every time that you praise me saying that I play very well, that I was perfect between other things,” said Bueno da Silva’s teammate, who goes by the name docinho. “I know that this pain will never ease, but I know that even with you away, you will keep cheering for me. I just wanted to get into the call with you and said that I loved you, and you were the person that I most loved in my life. Always I got sad or stressed with something, you were there to cheer my day up. I love you.”

Daily Esports reached out to numerous parties for more information about the incident, but they did not respond to a request for comment at the time of publication. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
