With the calendar turning to Aug., it’s time for a new season of Call of Duty leaks and teasers. The news for the 2021 game has been as slow as ever in the franchise’s history. Activision — who currently has bigger problems — has only confirmed that Sledgehammer Games is the developer behind the game. However, more speculation has arisen around “Vanguard,” the rumored title for COD 2021, thanks to a new teaser image for Warzone and Cold War Season 5 that went live on Twitter earlier today.

The Season 5 teaser image features one of the season’s new Operators and a possible new weapon. However, more importantly, there’s the background text that translates to “Vanguard coming.” The first person to spot the easter egg was a keen-eyed fan named Eric Maynard.

Call of Duty 2021 likely to be named Vanguard

This finding doesn’t confirm the title of COD 2021. But, it’s undoubtably cause for speculation in the community.

Call of Duty 2021 information and leaks

Apart from the title and developer, nothing else has been stated or teased at regarding COD 2021. There have been some short statements from executives involved with Call of Duty but nothing further. Of course, this doesn’t include leaks from insiders, of which there’s been quite a bit of news surrounding Vanguard.

According to these leaks, Vanguard is set a little after World War II. However, in this universe, the war didn’t end and players are thrown into a sequel of Call of Duty: WWII. The leaks state that classic WW2 weapons, like a Trench Shotgun, Molotov Cocktails and a Kar98k, will return in the game. Moreover, there will be around “eight multiplayer maps” when it launches. Of course, this information can certainly change before release.

Speaking of a release date, leakers claim that Vanguard will arrive sometime in early to mid Nov., similar to Black Ops Cold War. There’s also been speculation among insiders that Vanguard will be eerily similar to Cold War in terms of gameplay and visuals. The reveal for COD 2021 is said to come sometime in Aug. through Warzone, as Cold War did.

Finally, the last prominent leak for Vanguard states that Headquarters from WWII will return in some fashion. Headquarters was an interactive hub for players to join and go through various elements of the game. There was a 1v1 pit, live supply drop openings and other mini-games for players to participate in with random people or friends. There’s no word yet as to how Headquarters will look in Vanguard but leaks claim that it’s returning.

Call of Duty should release more teasers and official news surrounding the 2021 title in late August.
