Long-time Call of Duty professional Thomas “Tommey” Trewren announced he is stepping away from competing. In a TwitLonger, he cited his deteriorating mental health as the reason for this decision.
In his announcement, Tommey clarifies that this could mean his competitive career is over. However, a return to the Call of Duty scene is not out of the question.
Obviously, we all wish Tommey the best. Being a pro gamer isn’t as easy as many think, as it can take a serious toll on your psyche. For the time being, Denholm “Denz” Taylor will take Tommey’s spot on Team Reciprocity.
An original Call of Duty pro
Tommey has been one of the best European players in the scene since COD‘s esports debut. He started out in the original Modern Warfare, which is something not a lot of current pros can say.
Throughout his time in Call of Duty, he played for a multitude of teams. Although he never won an event, he always seemed to place well no matter who was on his squad.
For this current season, he’s been playing on Team Reciprocity. Having made it to the Pro League, Team Reciprocity placed top 3 at CWL Fort Worth. Though, Tommey’s absence will affect the team greatly going forward.

Focusing on Tommey
However, Call of Duty is not the main focus for Tommey or Team Reciprocity right now. Dealing with mental health issues for years, Tommey finally decided to put himself first rather than sacrifice his well-being for his team like he’s done for many years.
Check out the full TwitLonger, in which Tommey states he’s “been struggling mentally for a while,” that he’s “had some of the best times of [his] life” playing COD, and that he’s sorry to his team and his supporters for having to leave.
Hopefully, the European star finds what he’s looking for. Those who watch competitive Call of Duty will miss his superb gameplay for the time being, but everyone wishes for a quick recovery.
