Call of Duty: Warzone patch nerfs the new Sykov pistol

The Sykov is no longer the powerful weapon it used to be.

After releasing during the middle of last week, the Sykov pistol has already been nerfed in Call of Duty: Warzone. Raven Software acted quickly in this particular instance, nerfing several aspects of the Sykov and its attachments.

Nearly the minute the new pistol arrived in both Modern Warfare and Warzone, the player base called for a nerf. The machine pistol was too powerful with certain attachments, which is a common occurrence for new weapons in Call of Duty. In those cases, the developers usually take weeks or months to send out an update to resolve the gun’s issues. That’s not the case this time around, as the Sykov is now a worse weapon overall following the April 19 patch.

Sykov nerfed in latest Warzone patch

For anyone that played Warzone over the past week, there’s a large chance the Sykov pistol showed up in a huge way. As players began unlocking it and leveling it up, the more it began to affect Warzone matches. Thanks to the weapon’s low recoil, akimbo prowess and huge magazine, there was almost no stopping them.

However, that may be in the past, as the developers at Raven acted quickly to apply several nerfs to the weapon. The full update for Warzone is viewable on Raven’s website but the patch notes specific to the Sykov can be found below.

  • Sorokin 140mm Auto (Sykov)
    • Hip spread increased
  • Akimbo (Sykov)
    • Movement speed reduced by 5%
  • 80 Round Drums (Sykov)
    • Movement speed reduced by 5%
    • ADS movement speed reduced by 7%
  • When equipping the Sykov with the Sorokin 140mm Auto and the 80 Round Drums, damage is reduced by 25%.

The overall stats of the Sykov weren’t changed but some of the most popular attachments for it were. Raven Software likely didn’t want to nerf the pistol into the ground but hoped to reduce its effectiveness by reducing the stats of some of its attachments. The movement speed reductions for both the Akimbo and 80 Round Drum attachments are especially noteworthy.

Hopefully, the Sykov will play less of a role in the outcome of Warzone matches moving forward into Season 3.

UPDATE:

Raven Software stated after the update went live that the Sorokin 140mm Auto Barrel and Akimbo perk feature the 25% damage reduction, not the 80 Round Drum magazine.
