Earlier today, David “TheGrefg” Cánovas Martínez broke the all-time concurrent viewer record on Twitch. Topping out at nearly 2.5 million viewers, TheGrefg shattered the previous record of 1.1 million set by ELEAGUE. Fans across the world tuned in to see the streamer’s in-game Fortnite skin reveal, and they stayed for hours. The chat mainly consisted of Fortnite fans craving for a look at the skin and viewers wanting to be a part of the record-breaking stream. However, a small part of the chat was Call of Duty League fans asking the streamer if his organization, Team Heretics, could return to the esport.

CDL community asks TheGrefg if Team Heretics could return

Unless you’re a huge fan of TheGrefg or Team Heretics, you might not know the streamer owns the organization. He actually created it back in 2016 and has been operating it ever since. His Twitch and YouTube exploded when Fortnite started to take off which, in turn, made Team Heretics extremely popular.

One of the organization’s biggest claims to fame was having a successful Call of Duty roster. Consisting of mostly the same players for years, Heretics competed in most major tournaments from 2017 and on. While the placings were never too strong, the fanbase of the team was among the most noticeable in Call of Duty esports.

The phrase “༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ HERETICS TAKE MY VAMOS ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ” was a staple in chat whenever Heretics played a match. However, this popular team was forced to bow out of the esport after Activision decided a franchise league was the best move. Ever since this, CDL fans have asked time and time again if Madrid, Heretics’ main location, would ever get a spot.

While the possibility still remains unclear, fans haven’t stopped asking. Many viewers in TheGrefg’s chat asked the question, and while he didn’t respond, one of the team’s other creators did.

@Goorgo, one of Team Heretics’ founders, states that the organization is “still active” on the CDL front. Though the possibility does remain a long shot, perhaps TheGrefg’s recent success could be enough to propel the organization into acquiring a CDL spot.
