MTG Arena is getting a brand new expansion in Core Set 2020! Today, spoilers for this Core Set officially started, and so we have a ton to look at. Before we get into today’s spoilers, be sure to check out the super early spoilers we got last week showing off 3 new Chandra cards!
With that said, let’s get into it.
Big MTG Core Set 2020 reveals
Leyline of Sanctity: This pricey Modern staple is finally seeing its long-awaited reprint. On MTG Arena, this is sure to foil the plans of many red mages.
Leyline of Combustion: In addition to the reprint mentioned above, we’re seeing an all-new red Leyline. Leyline of Combustion is here to punish our opponents for targeting us or anything we own.
Rienne, Angel of Rebirth: This Naya-colored card looks absolutely solid for Commander. However, Standard has become quite multi-color-oriented as of late, so she may even have a home there.
Ajani, Strength of the Pride: Ajani is back with a unique, 0-cost ultimate. He makes Ajani’s Pridemates and will push the life-gain style decks on MTG Arena.
Additional Cards
We had a ton of Core Set 2020 cards spoiled today. Let’s take a look at many of those that didn’t get their own article.
Of these many, many cards that we got today, a handful really stand out.
- Dread Presence is super intriguing because we have Scapeshift in MTG Arena Standard. Imagine ramping out 10 lands, then casting Scapeshift while Dread Presence is on the field to deal 20 damage to your opponent!
- Corpse Knight is a shoo-in for Aristocrats in Standard, and maybe even Zombie Tribal in Modern. Both decks love gaining life while draining their opponent’s life by amassing lots of creatures. This card could prove solid for both strategies.
- Kykar, Wind’s Fury looks like an incredibly interesting Commander card. While not super busted on the surface, Kykar seems one or two steps away from being the centerpiece of some kind of combo deck.
- Goblin Ringleader is a huge part of Legacy Goblins. Now it’s available for Modern! We were all wondering why it wasn’t in Modern Horizons, and now we know why: it was in Core Set 2020 all along.
