Big reveals

Tale’s End: A pretty flexible version of Stifle, this card is sure to snipe a few Planeswalkers abilities and cards in MTG Arena Standard. If you draw it early you can counter Planeswalkers, and if you draw it late you can at least negate one of their abilities. Overall, a pretty solid card!

Mystic Forge: We were already seeing Affinity in Modern splash red for Experimental Frenzy; now they have their own version of the card! While this card and Frenzy have different strengths and weaknesses, Mystic Forge is almost certainly going to find a home in Modern Affinity. Check it out!

Thunderkin Awakener: Elementals get a huge power boost with this card. Be sure to watch out for constantly recurring Ball Lightnings.

Additional Core Set 2020 spoilers

As usual, not every card can get its own article. However, we’re always sure to give a nice view of everything else spoiled today, so let’s get into it!

So, two of these cards really stand out. Brought Back looks like it could be insane in a deck built around it. It’s almost a miniature version of Second Sunrise, a card that had to be banned in Modern due to the Eggs deck built around it. While Brought Back most likely won’t be reviving that archetype, it’s still a very powerful card that can actually provide white decks with mana ramp if they use it alongside fetch lands. Brought Back is the kind of card that is just waiting to be broken.

After that, Colossus Hammer seems pretty lackluster. However, there are ways to get around that massive equip cost such as with Sigarda’s Aid or Puresteel Paladin. Are we going to see some kind of crazy one-turn-kill deck using this hammer and infect creatures? Only time will tell, but it’s certainly a possibility.

Stay tuned!
