Cyberpunk 2077 lawsuit alleges studio mislead investors and players

Polish publisher CD Projekt S.A. is facing a class-action lawsuit on behalf of players who are upset with Cyberpunk 2077 . Rosen Law Firm, a global investor rights law firm based in New York, is suing CD Projekt S.A., claiming that CD Projekt S.A. is violating federal securities laws with Cyberpunk 2077‘s rocky launch performance.

In a press release, Rosen Law Firm is seeking to “recover damages for CD Projekt investors under the federal securities laws.” Purchasers between January 16, 2020 and December 17, 2020 are eligible in joining the lawsuit against CD Projekt S.A.

The lawsuit claims that CD Projekt S.A. “made false and/or misleading statements and/or failed to disclose” that Cyberpunk 2077 was facing issues at launch. “Cyberpunk 2077 was virtually unplayable on the current-generation Xbox or PlayStation systems due to an enormous number of bugs,” read the statement released by Rosen Law Firm.

Cyberpunk 2077 had a rough lunch even before the lawsuit

Developer CD Projekt Red has faced multiple issues since Cyberpunk 2077’s release. Shortly after the game’s release, CD Projekt Red began offering refunds to players unhappy with the game. Cyberpunk 2077 is currently unavailable on Sony’s PS Store but it is still available digitally on Xbox. Despite these issues, Cyberpunk 2077 still sold more than 13 million copies even after the number of returns is taken into consideration.

The lawsuit also claims that in the wake of Cyberpunk 2077’s release, CD Projekt Red has suffered “reputational and pecuniary harm.” The statement continues, saying that “statements about its business, operations, and prospects, were materially false and misleading and/or lacked a reasonable basis at all relevant times. When the true details entered the market, the lawsuit claims that investors suffered damages.”

For Cyberpunk 2077 PC fans who stuck around with the game, multiple mods are available to help smooth out the game’s experience. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One fans however, can play the game, glitches and all, or hold out for upcoming patches. For more Cyberpunk 2077 news stay tuned to Daily Esports.
