Cygames announces a Shadowverse anime

Many popular Japanese card games use anime to boost their popularity. Yu-Gi-Oh! and Cardfight Vanguard are both good examples of this. Now Cygames’ title Shadowverse has decided to join the fray with the announcement of its own unique anime.

  • Director of Photography: Shigeaki Asakawa
  • Editing: Daisuke Hiraki
  • Sound Director: Satoki Iida
  • Music: Yoshihiro Ike
  • Sound Production: Sonilude
  • Animation Production: ZEXCS

Notably, the director is an industry veteran. He has done storyboard work for multiple Cardfight Vanguard anime, animated Transformers shows, as well as many others. However, most of the shows he worked on in the past have not exactly proven insanely popular either. So, I wouldn’t expect the next Demon Slayer or anything.

As for the plot and setting, we know very little. The anime will feature the card game and will most likely have a Shonen, family-friendly plotline. This means the writing will probably be directed towards young males with a theme of pushing beyond one’s limits to overcome a rival. The cards themselves will no doubt come from the real game, but show-exclusive cards are also likely. Yu-Gi-Oh! has been known to do this as well.

The overall theme of Shadowverse is Western fantasy with an anime take, so transferring this art style to match the small amount of art we’ve seen from the show seems highly unlikely. An exact release date has not yet been confirmed.

What do you think of Shadowverse getting an anime? Will you try to watch it, or is it likely to be trash? Let us know down in the comments below!
