Dignitas has announced that former 100 Thieves support player Zaqueri “aphromoo” Black will join them for the 2020 League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) Season. The 27-year-old will join AD carry Johnson “Johnsun” Nguyen in the bot lane, alongside Heo “Huni” Seung-hoon on the starting lineup.

Aphromoo leaves 100 Thieves

“I’m on Dignitas now and we’re not stopping at Groups now. We’re going to have a pretty ridiculous lineup,” Aphromoo said in the reveal video. “I think we all understand what we want to do… where we want to be by the end of this season. I just want to f*cking win.”

Aphromoo joins Dignitas after a two-year role on 100 Thieves. He led the team to a first-place finish in the North American LCS 2018 Spring Split and an appearance at the 2018 World Championships. Unfortunately, after former SK Telecom T1 Bae “Bang” Jun-sik joined, the duo failed to find success in the bot lane.

This was described as team synergy problems due to communication difficulties from Bang’s poor English proficiency. Since then, 100 Thieves have promoted William “Stunt” Chen from his position on the Academy roster to the main lineup, which meant Aphromoo’s departure.

Dignitas in 2020 LCS

Formerly known as Clutch Gaming, the team originally ended in second-to-last place during the 2019 LCS Spring Split. After a merger between Clutch Gaming and Dignitas, the team rebounded to a 5th place finish in the Summer Split. While it failed to beat Counter Logic Gaming in the Summer Playoffs, it defeated Team SoloMid (TSM) 3 – 2 in the Regional Finals to go to the World Championships. However, the team then lost every single game in Group C at Worlds and was eliminated in 13 – 16. This was mainly because it was pitted against higher skilled teams like SK Telecom T1, Fnatic, and Royal Never Give Up.

Aphromoo’s introduction to Dignitas will be a great addition, as he has a lot of experience to help Johnsun navigate the professional scene. Other possible players on the roster include Jonathan “Grig” Armao and Henrik “Froggen” Hansen, who were listed alongside Aphromoo in an ESPN report. However, reports seemed to suggest that the team used up a third of its budget in Huni’s contract extension for $2.3 million.
