Dota Summit 10 is, at last, taking place this month

The International 2019 (TI9) is approaching. Before all eyes turn to Shanghai, though, the Dota Summit 10 will happen, as announced yesterday by Beyond the Summit itself. During a cast of TI9’s open regional qualifiers, BTS finally spoke about the tournament, disclosing when it is going to play out. The Dota Summit 10 will take place July 25 – 28, approximately a fortnight before TI9 kicks off.

A tournament that ended up not taking place

The event was initially going to kick off in December 2018, making it the second edition of the tournament within the same year. The winners of the Southeast Asia and North America qualifiers would face off against one another in a one-day affair. Fnatic was the SEA representative. Forward Gaming, who fielded a completely different roster from the one they have nowadays, would try to defend NA’s pride against Daryl Koh “iceiceice” Pei Xiang and co.

In the end, however, the event was canceled and postponed to the following year, 2019. Why? Because Forward Gaming withdrew in order to, rather, attend the MegaFon Winter Clash, where they would end up bombing out in the last place. Due to uncertainty surrounding which teams would attend, BTS decided not to host the event for the time being. Ever since then, nobody had heard a thing about Dota Summit 10.

Beyond the Summit, a different style

Yesterday, however, Beyond the Summit accompanied their live announcement with a little teaser on its Twitter. In full BTS style — laid back, relaxed, and meme-y — the video left many fans looking forward to the event. Instead of taking themselves seriously, BTS’s tournaments across all esports let the pressure aside in order to welcome in funny content creation and laughs. It is no different in Dota 2, and that is why the community appreciates this kind of warm-up weekend for the real deal, The International.

Details surrounding the teams and the prize pool have not yet been revealed. However, they will most likely become public throughout the next few days. Last year, Evil Geniuses managed to take the trophy home. Things have completely changed since then in the Dota 2 esports scene though. Whatever the outcome ends up being, Dota Summit 10 will surely be an epic event. That’s how it’s been every time for the past few years.
