Here’s a great holiday feel-good story for all you gamers just in time for the holidays. DrLupo, aka Benjamin Lupo the popular Fortnite streamer, raised a crazy $600,000 + for St. Jude Children’s Research this past weekend during a 24-hour Fortnite live stream. He surpassed his original goal of $1 million raising a total of $1.3 million this year alone which is truly incredible. The donations came from 85 different countries during the stream.
St. Jude’s is thankful for people like Dr.Lupo
Here’s what Richard Shadyac Jr, who is the President and CEO of ALASC which is behind the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude had to say about Lupo’s efforts:
DrLupo, his fan base and the entire gaming community have truly embraced the St. Jude mission in a huge way.To raise $1 million for the kids of St. Jude in just one year is an incredible milestone and makes him a leader among his gaming peers. By helping pioneer this innovative way of fundraising, he and his community are leading the charge for the future of fundraising by helping St. Jude continue to fight childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases.
DrLupo himself also made a statement about how he sees doing this as being the best part about being a streamer.
“One of the best parts of being a streamer is seeing communities of people form, and working with those communities to help benefit others and leave a legacy of positivity, Having the opportunity to engage the gaming community in the mission of St. Jude has been life changing, and I’m so grateful to continue to be a part of this legacy to show the good that gaming will do to change people’s lives.”
Lupo’s been working at this all year
DrLupo raised $659,000 back during GuardianCon, which a week-long event where streamers would game 24 hours a day to help raise funds for St. Jude. Due to his efforts and many others, GuadianCon raised $2.4 million in total also surpassing its original fundraising goal. He also collaborated with a t-shirt designer Design by Humans earlier in December to launch a “Build Against Cancer” campaign. That was also successful netting more than $140,000.
It’s truly heartwarming to see the streaming community and gamers coming together to help a worthwhile cause. It’s a great way to end off 2018 and hopefully help lots of kids who are going through some very difficult times.
Have a happy holiday season everyone from the team at Daily Esports.
