EA Sports has removed Manchester United forward Mason Greenwood from all offline modes and the team squad of FIFA 22 following sexual assault allegations.

An update to the FIFA 22 database on all platforms on Tuesday confirmed the removal of the player from the game. However, Greenwood’s FIFA Ultimate Card remains active for transfer on the transfer market.  According to a report by Dagbladet Sport, EA confirmed the removal of Greenwood from the game.

“Mason Greenwood has been removed from active squads in FIFA 22,” the report reads, “and [he] has also been suspended from appearing in FIFA Ultimate Team packs and Ultimate Draft.”

Greenwood was arrested on Monday for suspicion of alleged sexual assault on a young woman. The Greater Manchester Police issued a statement saying they were made aware of “online social media images and videos posted by a woman reporting incidents of physical violence”

The statement also confirmed that they had launched an investigation and arrested a man in his 20’s on suspicion of sexual assault. “He remains in custody for questioning. Inquiries are ongoing,” the statement reads.

In a response to the allegations, Manchester United said that it did not condone violence of any kind and suspended Greenwood from training or playing until further notice.

Additionally, Greenwood’s sponsor, Nike, also released a statement in response to the allegations.

“We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation,” Nike said.

EA similarly removed Benjamin Mendy previously, who awaits trial for rape and sexual assault charges in 2021. There remains no official confirmation from EA as to whether Greenwood’s FUT card will remain tradable.
