eFootball PES 2020 adds full Serie A license as it looks to dethrone FIFA

The upcoming football game, eFootball PES 2020, has been an eye-catcher this year to say the least. Being the biggest competitor to the FIFA series, PES has been on the rise in the last couple of years. Konami has already acquired an exclusive license for the Italian giants, Juventus, leaving FIFA with Piemonte Calcio, a name that makes many cringe. Now, PES has also acquired the whole Italian League. Nevertheless, FIFA will still feature the standard Serie A team names, kits, and others as the deal is not exclusive for Konami.

Once considered to be the most powerful league in the world, contending with the likes of Spanish and English leagues, Serie A has been underwhelming over the last couple of years. The arrival of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus brought new hope to the already well-established squad. Now, PES 2020 is not only going to be the only football game to fully show the team’s greatness, but it will be able to show it in a true Italian setting.

So what’s missing?

The addition of a fully licensed Serie A is a phenomenal step forward. Despite that, eFootball PES 2020 still has major holes in its licenses compared to FIFA 2020. Coming back to the Italian League license, it is mentioned at the bottom that “League licenses do not include team licenses.” This suggests that some Italian teams may not, in fact, be shown with their true name. Underwhelming, to say the least.

The English league will still vastly feature differently named teams, and so will the Spanish league. Despite cooperating with world giants such as Barcelona, Manchester United, and Arsenal, there are many major teams missing from the list of confirmed licenses such as Chelsea or Real Madrid. That may still be a deal breaker for many when faced with the question of which football game to pick up this year.

Though, it should be noted that Konami has absolutely made it one of their priorities to claim as many partnerships as possible. eFootball PES 2020 is set to release Sept. 10, so maybe, just maybe, Konami has more licenses and partnerships up their sleeve. Let us definitely hope so.
