Fans of the upcoming title from Konami, eFootball PES 2020, have been asking for some sort of information or gameplay of Master League. Master League is one of the core offline game modes present in most, if not all, PES titles. Our prayers have finally been answered as Konami unveiled a trailer for the upcoming game mode.

New features in Master League

You, the Manager

Comparing to the previous iterations of being a manager in Master League, this year’s PES is looking to make you, the manager, a much more central figure. With that, comes a ton of cut scenes. From what we saw, these will include transfer negotiations as well as post and or pre-game press conferences. The cut scenes will include dialogue options that may or may not impact further events down the line. On top of that, supposedly, there will be individual storylines, likely depending on how you answer questions at press conferences and outcome of matches.

Team Reputation system

A brand new feature added to Master League is a team reputation system. In the trailer, the system wasn’t thoroughly explained, but one aspect that changes the reputation is the signing of players from academy club in pre-season. If they perform well, your team will gain recognition, and therefore, followers. How will follower count impact the team and experience? That is currently unknown.

Derby Matches

Before, a derby match in Master League would be treated mostly like any other match. Perhaps the in-game commentator would mention that it was a derby somewhere in the commentary, but little else changed. Now, eFootball PES 2020 is looking to treat derby matches with a much higher degree and priority. The trailer based the derby between age-old rivals Inter and AC Milan. We’ve got a glimpse of special dialogue options, cut scenes, locker-room motivational speeches and overall excitement after scoring and winning the derby. Perhaps derbies will be one way of heavily affecting follower count?

Overhaul of the Master League interface

Konami blessed us with a very short glimpse of Master League’s interface. The interface looks phenomenal, with team colors taking the stage. The switchable tabs have been placed at the top and look easy-enough to navigate. The main screen which we have been shown, has the upcoming schedule, latest news, League standings as well as follower count and Official Partners. We are yet to hear about the Official Partners. Is it just a gimmick, or will we be able to sign partnership deals? Nevertheless, the interface is looking fresh at first glance.

With just over a week left until September 10, we still haven’t heard much about Become a Legend (BAL) or MyClub modes. It is evident that Konami has this year focused mostly on licenses as well as the esports side of things as it is hoping to make eFootball PES 2020 the dominant esport football game. This means knocking FIFA off of the throne. Will Konami succeed? We are sure to find out in the coming weeks and months. As for now, let’s hope we are going to see more announcements and positive surprises ahead of launch date.
