At EGLX this weekend, Luminosity Fortnite players Ali “SypherPK” Hassan and “JuniorPK” duked it out in an all-out brother-versus-brother matchup on the Bell Fibe stage. Before the start of the first round, SypherPK shared how he got into the Fortnite esports scene.

“I started off way in the beginning when we had the Zap Traps and the Spike Traps,” he said. “A lot of people weren’t even using them back then, but I kind of figured out a way. And some of you might know one of my most popular moves, the ‘Trap Tower,’ with the Launch Pads and the traps. That’s kind of what shot me into popularity in gaming —  even [giving] me the nickname ‘the Trap King.’”

As for JuniorPK, he revealed that his favorite Fortnite weapon is the Pump Shotgun. Whenever he goes into a game, his strategy is to “Just land, and everyone in my frame of vision  — just go at them. Attack.”

However, instead of playing Fortnite at the Bell Fibe stage, the two brothers duked it out by playing classic games such as Super Mario Bros., Donkey Kong, Excitebike, Double Dragon, and Ice Hockey.

In round one, SypherPK and JuniorPK did a speedrun for the first level of the classic Super Mario Bros. SypherPK won the first round; however, his brother was determined to even the score in round two. When the first level of the classic Donkey Kong game was played, JuniorPK archived 2,200 points, but his older brother won the round in the end.

“I actually played these games,” SypherPK said. “You know, when I first started off on the PlayStation 1 or even some old-school video games. I played Mario. I played Donkey Kong.”

SypherPK explained that he started really loving video games when he first played Runescape. He noted how although Runescape is an “old MMO,” it is still popular to this day. Now, Runescape fans can play both the current version of the game as well as the classic Old School RuneScape, the former of which was first released back in 2001. One of JuniorPK’s favorite games is also Runescape, but he is a fan of Halo 3 too.

Round three featured Excitebike, where players had to race for the best time while dodging obstacles that slowed them down and making sure their bikes didn’t overheat. SypherPK played the game first on stage, achieving a time of 1:18:19, while JuniorPK was close to beating that with a time of 1:22:80.

The next round featured the beat ’em up classic Double Dragon. The brothers duked it out in Mode B, and while it was another close game, SypherPK won the match.

The fifth and final game was Ice Hockey, where JuniorPK made an epic comeback. Against his brother, he achieved a final score of 5-4.

“I think this game right here required the most skill,” JuniorPK said in jest, referring to Ice Hockey. “I’m not being biased because I won, but [there was] strategy of going around, moving, grabbing, and defending — rather than just [going in] a straight line.”

For fans who want to keep up with JuniorPK and SypherPK, they each have their own YouTube channels, Twitch channels, as well as Twitter accounts.
