ELEAGUE interview with Fujimura
In the third part of our ELEAGUE interview series, we talk to the Ibuki specialist, Fujimura. You can check out the audio file below, as well as a transcription below that.
This interview took place during the Street Fighter V ELEAGUE Invitational Finals on July 13th, 2018 after his match against Smug. Fujimura’s answers were given through his translator.
Daily Esports: Hey everyone this is Kevin from Daily Esports and joining me live from the ELEAGUE Street Fighter V Invitational Finals is Fujimura. Fujimura, how are you doing today?
Fujimura: I am feeling good.
DE: So you just had an incredible match not that long ago [against Smug], how do you feel right now, where is your mindset at?
Fujimura: Well Smug was moving very well and I just couldn’t really adapt fast enough basically.
DE: Do you still plan on sticking with Ibuki? Are you solid with your character choice?
Fujimura: I do plan on having a sub character but I still plan on maining Ibuki.
DE: Now you just had an amazing performance at CEO [first place], and you are still performing great throughout the year, what are your plans going into tournaments down the line? Has your mindset changed at all? How are you preparing for the rest of the events throughout the year?
Fujimura: I feel like tournaments are just a way of reproducing the things you have practiced, whether in casuals or training. That is how I have played up until this point and that is what I plan on doing. I keep doing the same sort of process of just coming out with what I have practiced and keep doing my best.
DE: Who is your favorite to win the event right now?
Fujimura: Tokido.
DE: He is a lot of people’s favorite right now. It is going to be a hell of a Winner’s Finals.
Fujimura: Daigo is also looking really good too so there might be a problem with that.
DE: So you wouldn’t be betting any money right now?
*laughs*
Fujimura: I would bet on Daigo.
DE: Oh ok.
Fujimura: He has been looking good.
DE: What I have been asking the rest of the players tonight is, since ELEAGUE reaches so many people, there are a lot of people who don’t normally watch fighting game tournaments tuning in right now. What advice would you give to newcomers coming into the FGC watching events like this for how they can get into the FGC?
Fujimura: Getting your combos down is, obviously, really important, but even if you don’t think you are going to win, just enter tournaments. That is going to be the best way to improve and don’t worry about winning, just enter.
DE: Experience is important overall.
Fujimura: Yes.
