Elevate purchases Excelerate’s CWL Pro League spot, reveals new roster

North American esports organization Elevate announced its new roster for the CWL Pro League, since leaving Call of Duty esports in August 2018. Elevate purchased the CWL Pro League spot that was previously owned by Excelerate Gaming.

Elevate’s current roster

According to CWL rules, a team that acquires another team’s spot has to keep at least one player from the prior roster to be eligible. With this acquisition, the organization has signed three existing players from the Excelerate Gaming roster, which include Christopher “ProFeeZy” Astudillo, Mike “MRuiz” Ruiz, and Cesar “Skyz” Bueno. Along with these players, Elevate has also picked up two French players from Denial Esports, which include Wailers “Wailers” Locart and Paul “Breszy” Breszynski.

Carson “Brack” Newberry, the previous AR Slayer, will go to Denial Esports. Eric “JetLi” Phan has become a free agent.

Along with the CWL Pro League spot, Elevate also inherit the current match placing that Excelerate had accumulated. Elevate are tied last to Enigma6 and Denial Esports in Division B, with 3 wins and 8 losses.

Elevate’s prior roster

Michael “SpaceLy” Schmale, Nicholas “Proto” Maldonado, Chance “Maux” Moncivaez, and Michael “MajorManiak” Szymaniak made up their previous 2018 roster. Three of them later went on to get signed by esports organization Gen.G, and Proto went to UYU.

Excelerate’s reasons for sale

Excelerate first came into the limelight when they dropped Ethan “FA5TBALLA” Wedgeworth, one week into the season. The team manager claimed the player was dropped for being toxic and uncoachable, but the majority of the community thought it was too early for a roster change.

Shortly after, Excelerate Gaming dropped all of their players after qualifying into the CWL Pro League. Michael “Beehzy” Said also made accusations that Excelerate CEO Justin Tan was trying to sell the team’s spot. He then mentioned how the players had wages withheld and that the organization was holding the league spot over the players’ heads.

With Call of Duty franchising coming soon, it looked like it was in Excelerate Gaming’s best interest to sell the spot.

The new Elevate roster will have their first game at CWL London on May 3. They will take over Exelerate Gaming’s spot in Pool D.
