After much criticism, Epic Games has decided to reschedule Week 10 of the Fortnite World Cup. The event came under fire after players and fans realized it coincided with the 2019 Fortnite Pro-AM. The Pro-AM takes place on June 15-16 at Epic’s Fortnite Summer Block Party. Week 10 of the World Cup was scheduled to take place the same dates.

Fortunately, Epic Games will now move the World Cup to June 20-21. The times will also move back one hour from the original start times. Instead of starting at 3:00 PM local time, the competition will now begin at 4:00 PM local time for each region. Additionally, Epic Games has bumped up the prize pool to $2 million for the last week.

Epic listens to players

The developer receives plenty of criticism from players regarding the game. This time, the company listened to its community and players. Players and streamers invited to the Pro-AM called for the rescheduling of either event. Now, those same players can play in both. The most vocal proponents of the change were Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, Turner “Tfue” Tenney, and Dennis “Cloakzy” Lepore. They have yet to qualify for the duo competition, and only Tfue has qualified for the solo competition.

The scheduling conflict tore players on which to participate in. The Pro-AM is a great event where the players meet fans and celebrities. In addition, the winning team last year decided which charity Epic Games donated to. On the other hand, the Fortnite World Cup gives players the opportunity to showcase their ability and win large cash prizes. Both events are great in their own respect, but they display two very different sides of Fortnite.

The professionals embraced the change, but not all players appreciate the rescheduling. The World Cup now takes place at 4:00 PM local time, which can conflict with competitors that work a typical nine to five job. They must figure out how to compete in the tournament if it conflicts with previous obligations. The same goes for fans.

Possible competition upcoming

Epic Games announced in the competitive AMA that the next competitive tournament would be trios. The weekend of June 22-23 is open for this event. Changing the World Cup to a Thursday and Friday before this weekend leads one to believe another competition could be on the horizon. Ultimately, however, the developers have not announced anything concrete. New events are upcoming, though, and Epic might just have a surprise in store.
