The United States Navy begins its esports journey with its newest team, while actively looking for talent. EG posted their recruitment advertisement on Twitter, hoping to grab some attention from aspiring pro players. The partnership will help Goats and Glory “Sailors” become good enough to compete in tournaments and events.

Although this YouTube content series seems like the start of something big, they plan on continuing the partnership for much longer than six episodes. This September, both teams will appear together at TwitchCon’s event in San Diego. During the event, EG will broadcast a live special called “Squad Streams.” During the stream, EG will have a chance to play with fans while simultaneously adding Sailors to their broadcast.

Evil Geniuses CEO Nicole LaPointe Jameson shared a few thoughts on their partnership: “It’s an incredible honor to partner with America’s Navy as they take this step forward into esports… We are humbled to stand shoulder to shoulder with this incredible institution.” She also indicates that both teams share the same values, which are excellence, teamwork, and discipline.

Requirements to join

Although America’s Navy would like to onboard the best players, they do have a few strict requirements before joining. For instance, every team member must be a current sailor enrolled in the U.S. Navy. See below for the listed requirements:

  • Rank E4 and above
  • Pass screening for recruiting duty
  • Must have passed the last 3 years of regularly scheduled PFAs
  • Must be in BCA standards at time of transfer

Prospects must have excellent communication skills as well. The application process will run March 15 through May 1. The organization will eventually have teams for other popular games, such as League of Legends and Fortnite. For the six-episode series, Evil Geniuses will only feature CSGO.

The Chief Marketing Officer at Navy Recruiting Command, Captain. Matt Boren, stated: “Partnering with the Evil Geniuses provides the Navy a unique opportunity to engage with some of the world’s top gamers and improve relatability with prospective Sailors.” He further added: “The skill sets utilized by Evil Geniuses – problem analysis, risk assessment, sensory perception, and split-second decision-making – are the same skill sets required to succeed in critical Navy career fields.”
