North American esports organization Evil Geniuses has officially signed former 100 Thieves AD carry Bae “Bang” Jun-sik to its League of Legends roster. The former SK Telecom T1 two-time world champion joins the Seattle-based organization, alongside former Cloud9 players like jungler Dennis “Svenskeren” Johnsen and support Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam.

Bang joins Evil Geniuses

The AD carry joins Evil Geniuses from a one-year role on North American esports organization and lifestyle brand 100 Thieves. The organization also recently acquired top laner Colin “Kumo” Zhao and AD carry Matthew “Deftly” Chen as part of its deal with Cloud9. No further information has been disclosed about the price Bang was acquired for. However, a report by ESPN suggests that Deftly may be a part of the transaction between 100 Thieves and Evil Geniuses.

Evil Geniuses joins the League of Legends Championship Series (LCS) after purchasing now-disbanded organization Echo Fox’s slot for $33 million from Riot Games. The organization will also still have one import slot left to use if Danish player Svenskeren decides to register himself as a North American resident.

Recent disappointment in LCS

With a rich history and lots of experience, Bang joined the 100 Thieves lineup for the 2019 season. Many had forecast the organization as a top team in the preseason, but it ended the 2019 LCS Spring Split in dead last. The Thieves didn’t do much better in the Summer Split, with an 8th place finish. Many in the community commented that Bang seemed to have deteriorated in skill level after moving to North America. During this time, he was being paid one of the highest salaries in the league, where the average is $300,000 a year and top players are paid over $1 million.

While Bang’s last split with SK Telecom T1 only saw him achieving 7th place during the 2018 League of Legends Champions Korea (LCK) Summer Split, many attribute the poor results to other factors. This included a lack of synergy, along with problems with communication because of his lack of English fluency. Can Bang bring back his A-game to the 2020 season?
