Ex6tenz announces retirement from professional Counter-Strike

Kevin “Ex6tenz” Droolans is one of the all-time greats of the Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) and Counter-Strike: Source days. After a professional career of nearly 14 years, he announced his retirement from the game. However, this isn’t the last we’ll see of Ex6tenz, as he plans to transition into a coaching position.

Ex6tenz’s legacy

Throughout his career, Ex6tenz has achieved many things. Ex6tenz competed on many top CS:GO teams throughout the years, winning over 50 competitions both online and offline. His biggest success stories were during his time with LDLC and G2 Esports, respectively, between 2016 and 2019.

One example of his success was during the Esports World Convention 2017 in Paris. Ex6tenz, alongside the Team LDLC roster, managed to win the event for a total prize of nearly $30,000. Another was the top 5th/6th place at the Esports Championship Series Season 5 Finals. While they lost out against FaZe Clan, they still took home a total of $45,000.

Leading outside of the game

Ex6tenz is considered to be one of the best in-game leaders of all time. As he explains in his retirement announcement, the logical next step for him is to become a leader outside of the game as a coach.

Now is the time to change direction and role. I may no longer have the motivation to practice 10 hours per day individually in addition to the strategic work but I still love the game, the teamplay, the tactic, the job well done, the desire to get the best out of my players as a group and as individuals. I want to transmit these values and immerse myself more in the analysis, observation and the management of a group.

For these reasons I want to become a coach. I’ve known for a long time that it would be the next logical step for me because my vision was more and more global and not enough focused on myself.

I can’t wait to find my project in which I will have time to work on my new role!

At this time, it’s still unknown which team Ex6tenz will be coaching. However, with his experience, many teams will surely be looking to have him lead their rosters. For more CS:GO news, be sure to read all about SmithZz’s retirement from the CS:GO scene.
