Experience top-down CS:GO with new Dota 2 mod Polystrike

CS:GO is a first-person shooter. That is how the game is meant to be played. But what if you could experience some CS:GO action from another perspective? Using the Source 2 engine via a Dota 2 mod, a Ukrainian developer named Mark Mocherad has a game in the works named Polystrike.

Polystrike in alpha stage

The game is still to be officially released on Steam as a stand-alone title. However, the developer, Mocherad, has already released some alpha gameplay footage for us to take a look at.

The gameplay already seems immensely fun, despite the game still being in alpha stage. You’ve got your classic terrorist vs counter-terrorist matchup on a well-recreated Dust 2 map. The guns have their classic sounds, while the grenades seem to have been replicated well-enough.

What is really enticing though, is the art style. Polystrike‘s characters and the Dust 2 map have a very distinct style that strays away from the more serious design usually present in CS:GO. If you check out Mocherad’s official website for the title, you can see right away that the game will feature a variety of gun and character skins. The art looks phenomenal and definitely suits the nature of the game.

Character models to be playable in Polystrike

Additionally, we may finally have a CS:GO game that does not have a meta of guns to use on full buy rounds. It would be fun to use a Sawed-Off instead of your standard AK-47 for once. Imagine buying an M249 and it being viable to use in-game. There’s a lot of opportunities here for Polystrike to exploit.

Supporting the developer

You can support Mark Mocherad’s project by chipping in on his Patreon. You can also check out his Steam Workshop. The game is supposed to be free-to-play when it is completed. Hopefully, if all goes well, we’ll get to play this promising project sometime this year.

What do you think of Polystrike and such Dota 2 mod projects? Will you be playing it when it’s available to play for free to the public. Let us know down in the comments below! And as always, follow us at Daily Esports for all your latest news in the esports world.
