Since the 2018 FIFA World Cup is underway, EA Sports unveiled a new update to FIFA 18 providing new content inspired by the tournament. The game featured an authentic World Cup mode, new player cards, and new features for Ultimate Team. One of these features is the introduction of “Festival of FUTball.”

Festival of FUTball provides players with the chance to upgrade their Ultimate Team squads with new items. The month-long event will feature new World Cup in-form cards, squad building challenges and international themed content. With the World Cup entering into the final matchday of group stage matches, FIFA 18 has unveiled the new in-form cards from the first two matchdays.

Below is a list of the first two Festival of FUTbol team of the matchday.

Festival of FUTball team of the matchday 1

The players featured above have the distinct honor of being the first edition of FIFA 18’s Festival of FUTball team of the matchday. Starting us off in goal, we have Yan Sommer rated 89. In defense, José Giménez rated 89, 92 rated Aleksandar Kolarov, and Jesús Gallardo. The midfield features, 91 rated Hirving Lozano, Denis Cheryshev 87 rated, and 92 rated Phillippe Coutinho. Finishing off our attack, 98 rated Cristiano Ronaldo, 94 rated Harry Kane, Romelu Lukaku rated 95, and 91 rated Diego Costa.

The rest of the squad is:

  • Isco= 95
  • Andreas Granqvist= 90
  • Aaron Mooy= 90
  • Alfred Finnbogoason= 88
  • Aleksandr Golovin= 87
  • Yussuf Poulsen= 87
  • Hannes Pór Halldorsson= 86

Overall there aren’t too many complaints about the players featured in the squad. The only slight change I’d make would be adding Golovin into the starting 11. To be fair to him, Golovin had two assists and a goal in Russia’s 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia. The man of the match in that game, surely he deserves a spot in the starting 11? Now to place him into the squad, someone needs to come out. For me, that person would be Coutinho. Even though he scored an absolute screamer in Brazil’s 1-1 tie with Switzerland, other than that he didn’t produce much. Besides that small change, there isn’t any other issue I have with the first matchday squad.

Festival of FUTball team of the matchday 2.

Starting us off we have 90 rated Keylor Navas in goal. In defence we have, Marcelo rated 91, 89 rated Victor Moses, and John Stones rated 89. In the midfield, we have Luka Modric rated 93, James Rodriguez rated 95, 92 rated Ivan Rakitic, and Juan Cuadrado and Jese Lindgard both rated 91. To round off the attack, we have Eden Hazard rated 97 and 89 rated Musa.

The rest of the squad is:

  • Oliver Giroud= 92
  • Inui= 90
  • Rui Patricio= 89
  • Xherdan Shaqiri= 89
  • Javier Hernandez= 89
  • Mario Fernandes= 88
  • Artem Dzyuba= 88

While I didn’t have any major complaints about the first matchday squad, there are some for this edition. For one, Harry Kane needs to be in the squad. Even though it would mean him featuring in two successive matchday squads, the man scored a hat-trick. P.s, yes I know England faced Panama, but a hat-trick in the World Cup is still a hat-trick. Now, the whole point of the matchday squads is to showcase the players who PERFORMED on the matchday, did Harry Kane not perform?

On top of that, Inui features but Moussa Wague doesn’t? Japan faced off in a thrilling game against Senegal which ended 2-2, and both the players as mentioned earlier had great matches. Inui got himself a goal and an assist, and Wague also scored a goal. If one was featured how isn’t the other? While I am judging off small margins, it still would’ve been nice to see Wague featured considering him and Inui were the two stars of their game.
