FIFA 19 is almost upon us, so you know what that means? New FIFA 19 player ratings! As covered earlier, we took a look at the first batch of new FIFA 19 player ratings. In case you need a refresher, FIFA releases the player ratings for the top 100 players in the game. In this article, we will be taking a look at the second batch, which includes players 80 to 61.

FYI, the new FIFA 19 player ratings will start with the “lowest” rated gold card, and move its way up to the best. It’s also worth noting that the new player ratings involve the player’s performance over the last calendar year.

Overall Thoughts
As I said in my previous article, these player ratings are relatively similar to their respected cards last year. When you’re referring to the top 100 players, there really aren’t many shocks. With that said, a couple ratings did raise my eyebrows a little bit.
The first being Miarlem Pjanić. Regarded as one of the best midfielders in Italy and the world, he only received a one-point upgrade. Considering he’s arguably Juve’s most important player and has been a consistent performer for the last three years, he should deserve a better-updated card. Now I may be a little bias since I am a Juventus fan who has watched him play over the last three years but I feel that he deserves at least an 87. To say he is only one point better than both Milinković-Savić and Nainggolan is a little absurd. 87 to me is a fair rating for one of the best midfielders in the world but I may be wrong.
The next player rating I would like to discuss is Mesut Özil. Honestly, I don’t think Özil has performed for the last three years, so the fact he still gets these high ratings is absurd to me. If it were up to me, he would be getting at least an 84 or 85. The fact is that over the last couple years he’s been lackluster and doesn’t look like the same player. Considering these ratings are based on the performances of last year, Özil’s lucky he wasn’t given an 82. Maybe I’m a little harsh on him, but I remember him at his peak, and yes, Arsenal isn’t Real Madrid but his final season with Madrid is when the downfall began.
Besides the two mentioned above, I think the FIFA 19 player ratings are accurate. Bonucci being downgraded from an 88 to 86 is fair considering he had an awful year at Milan. Roberto Firmino also deserved his upgrade from 83 to 86, same with Leroy Sané and Douglas Costa (84 to 86). I also agree with the downgrades of Marco Verratti and Jérôme Boateng. I would’ve even taken Verratti down another rating to 85 because he has stalled the last two years; same with Boateng. Ever since Messi broke his ankles, it hasn’t been the same.
