The reveal for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War has come and gone, and the community is buzzing with excitement. This was perhaps the best unveiling of a new game in the series’ history and players responded in kind. However, now that the reveal is out of the way, it seems an embargo has lifted. Details surrounding the game are flooding in from creators who were lucky enough to get a first-hand look at Black Ops Cold War. We have details on the Battle Pass, engine, DLC, and multiplayer, so let’s get right into it.

Black Ops Cold War Battle Pass plans

One of the best aspects of Modern Warfare is the monetization strategy that Activision implemented. DLC is free and the Battle Pass is actually worth purchasing. This new strategy has resulted in players being able to earn more in-game items but also spend less money.

Well, it seems that the same strategy is being used in Black Ops Cold War. According to sources with official knowledge, BOCW will feature free post-launch DLC and a Battle Pass system like Modern Warfare. Here’s an official description of the system:

Black Ops Cold War will also offer a Battle Pass system and deliver a steady stream of post-launch content, including multiplayer maps and modes, Zombies experiences, along with a robust schedule of in-game community events.

If you’re worried about losing progress if you move from PC to PlayStation 5, there’s no need. Black Ops Cold War will feature “cross-generation crossplay support, with cross-progression for all players to play together.”

Treyarch confirms new engine

For the crowd of players wondering if BOCW will use Modern Warfare’s engine, there’s finally an answer. Treyarch has confirmed that it is not fully using the game’s engine but instead revamping the one used from Black Ops 3. The developers have rebuilt and retooled many of the engine’s qualities to bring BOCW to life. This means that there is a plethora of new technology coming on the backend of the game.

Additional details on BOCW multiplayer

Lastly, we have some brand new information on the title’s multiplayer. While not much is officially known, Activision did confirm the multiplayer reveal for September 9 along with some other details. Players who pre-order any edition of BOCW will receive early access to the multiplayer open beta. Also, if you pre-order, you’ll receive some other goodies as well, like the Land, Sea, & Air Pack (Ultimate Edition).
