Admittedly, if you’re an avid PUBG player like myself, you will understand that it doesn’t always run smoothly from time to time and it deserves some optimization. However, rather than avoid talking about the issue and adding it the bottom of the patch notes, PUBG Corporation has owned up to the problems by starting a new scheme called “FIX PUBG.”

This is a phrase we’ve been hearing a lot lately. So today, we’re announcing a new campaign entirely focused on addressing bugs, quality-of-life improvements, and fundamental performance improvements.

Earlier today, the campaign was announced on PUBG‘s Twitter and Reddit page and also on a new website featuring a full roadmap detailing where future performance improvements lie each month.
PUBG also explain why the scheme is now the company’s top priority by saying “This is a phrase that we’ve been hearing a lot lately. Bugs, performance problems, and quality-of-life issues have been limiting PUBG’s true potential, and you want it fixed. So we think it’s time to do something about it.”
The new PUBG roadmap
The roadmap, which can be found here, features each optimization that the team wants to work on and where it stands in the timeline. This is merely based on prediction, but PUBG has made roadmaps in the past and they have been exceedingly accurate in terms of completion.
The major updates to be worked on across the coming months are the anti-cheat system, server performance optimizations, and general bug fixes. Although, other plans are in progress to alter the speed of matchmaking and client performances.
Client performances:
Client performance is a controversial topic as most PUBG players are limited to running smooth gameplay due to the game’s large variety of variables and details.
The developers are now rectifying the issue by working on a process called Hitching. Hitching is typically when a player is running a steady framerate and then it drops by 10 to 20 percent. This can occur in various circumstances and sometimes cost you the round.
Level streaming optimization:
Level-loading occurs when a player is moving around the map and textures/physics load in. The process has now been fixed to 5.6 seconds loading time from 14.4 seconds.
Level-loading can occur more often on larger maps like Erangel and Miramar as there is much more to load in. However, Sanhok has the most issues with level streaming due to each area being tightly compacted.
Effect optimization:
Players can expect tweaks to various in-game effects which will greatly increase the performance.
Gunshots, blood particles, and care package smoke are examples of in-game effects which can have an impact on framerate.
Character optimization:
PUBG Corporation also wants to work on optimization for various issues revolving the character. This includes movement, inactive weapons, and replication.
Personally, I believe the new “FIX PUBG” roadmap is a great idea. Previous players may be intrigued to come back. Also, players that use machines at or under the recommended specifications may now enjoy the game at a steady framerate. As a result, more players joining will give the game a new lease of life. Furthermore, PUBG can now stop taking so much heat for not being optimizing.
