Florida Call of Duty franchise announce General Manager

The Florida Call of Duty franchise announced that retired professional Halo player Tom “OGRE2” Ryan would be the organization’s first general manager for the upcoming season. The Call of Duty League in 2020 is the first season with franchising where teams are based around cities.

Tom “OGRE2” Ryan

Tom will be responsible with building the Call of Duty roster as the league enters its first-ever season. He will also handle strategic development for the team. “This is all a bit crazy, but I’m SO excited to be here,” said Tom “OGRE2” Ryan in the press release. “I look forward to taking my talents to South Beach to build a top squad here in Florida and becoming fully immersed in the Call of Duty world!”

Tom is considered one of the best Halo players of all time. He and his brother won many national Halo tournaments and were known as the “Ogre Twins”. The 33-year-old began his professional career in 2003 on Shoot to Kill. He has also competed for organizations like Team 3D, Final Boss, Instinct, Counter Logic Gaming, Team EnVyUs, Denial Esports, and Evil Geniuses. However, as the years went on, the competitive Halo esports scene seemed to have lost popularity. Tom tried to transition to other games like Ian “Enable” Wyatt or Matthew “FormaL” Piper, but he was not successful. He competed until May of 2016, where he announced his retirement.

Florida Call of Duty franchise

Activision Blizzard revealed earlier in the month that two additional city franchise slots have been acquired for the new CDL season. European esports organization Misfits Gaming picked up the first slot for a Florida team. Kroenke Sports and Entertainment also purchased another Los Angeles franchise slot, joining Infinite Gaming Club’s existing slot in the city.

Other than the Florida Call of Duty franchise slot, Misfits also owns Overwatch League franchise team Florida Mayhem. The Misfits organization is also an affiliate of the NBA Miami Heat team, which makes this choice perfect. Other cities that have been announced for the Call of Duty League include Atlanta, Dallas, Minnesota, New York, Paris, and Toronto.
