As announced on their official Twitter, Lee “GBM” Chang-seok has been transferred from Royal Youth to Galatasaray Esports. The Turkish League of Legends team expects to start GBM in the mid lane position in the upcoming Summer Season.
Galatasaray Esports are partners of the Turkish football club Galatasaray. They finished fifth in the recent 2019 TCL Winter Season. Subsequently, Galatasaray were able to secure a playoffs spot in the Winter playoffs. They finished 3rd-4th after beating Team AURORA in the quarterfinals but fell to 1907 Fenerbahçe in a quick semifinals series.
Royal Youth, GBM’s former team, qualified for the Winter playoffs as the 3rd seed. Similarly to Galatasaray, they swept their quarterfinals match against Dark Passage but lost to SuperMassive in the semifinals.
GBM’s competitive history
The 24-year old South Korean started his professional career back in 2013 on CJ Entus Frost. He only stayed in Korea for a little over a year, moving to North America in 2015. GBM joined NRG Esports but unfortunately didn’t have much success with them either. After his brief stay with Team Vitality in Europe, he moved back to North America to play on eUnited.
Interestingly, eUnited had a fairly stacked roster at the time, especially for a challenger team. Along with GBM, the team imported former World champion Choi “DanDy” In-kyu for the jungler position. Additionally, the team also had three future LCS players on their roster in Eric “Licorice” Ritchie, Matthew “Deftly” Chen, and Tristan “Zeyzal” Stidam. Unfortunately, the team failed to promote to the NA LCS after Phoenix1 swept them in the Qualifying Round.
GBM’s most successful years as a pro have actually been during his time in Turkey. With SuperMassive, GBM won two TCL splits, went to MSI, Rift Rivals, and even Worlds. After failing to qualify further into the Worlds Group stage, GBM left for Royal Youth, where he spent the last split.
