As of June, Epic Games announced Fortnite had reached 125 million players. Now according to new numbers from Bloomberg, the game just hit 200 million registered players worldwide. This is an impressive increase of about 60% since the last announcement. Fortnite is popular with just about everyone from kids in elementary school, to pros who make a living off playing the game, and even professional players in just about every sport. Epic’s popular free-to-play Battle Royale mode, where you have 100 players against each other, launched just a year ago. It’s hard to believe how much of a global phenomenon this game has become and it isn’t slowing down anytime soon.

The good and the bad

We’ve reported in recent months on parents even hiring professional coaches to get their kids “Fortnite ready” to become esports players if that’s what they want. We’ve also reported on Fortnite addictions. So yes, this game has a good and bad side but that doesn’t seem to stop people from coming to check it out. You also can’t forget the attraction Fortnite has with all the sweet in-game purchases like skins, weapons, gliders, and different emotes. Fortnite keeps itself fresh with its many different seasons, and limited-time events bring in even more players.

It has literally set the standard for all battle-royale-style games and other games have followed its lead. In the esports realm, Epic has poured about $100 million into its league enticing those to compete for big bucks. You also can’t forget that Fortnite is now on the Nintendo Switch, which is sure to get more into the Fortnite craze who may not have a PlayStation 4, Xbox One, or PC. You also can play it on the go thanks to its mobile version.

Whether or not you’ve been playing since launch, are a casual player, or just tried it out one time and it wasn’t for you, you have to admit this game isn’t going anywhere. With the holidays coming up and Fortnite‘s Winter Royale, millions more are going to hop on. Congratulations to Epic Games and its player base for helping to achieve this milestone.
