Epic Games has released the much-anticipated Fortnite game mode Arena Trios just days before the first Fortnite Trios tournament. Said tournament takes place on the weekend of July 13 and 14. Players have been announcing their teams ever since Epic mentioned the tournament.

The developer first teased the event in their blog post back on June 20. Officially named the “Trios Cash Cup,” this first trios tournament looks to provide players and viewers with a different perspective of competitive Fortnite. Until this tournament, the only official events from Epic Games were Solos and Duos.

Since the announcement, players have been trying to practice for the tournament. This new game mode, Arena Trios, finally allows competitors to hop into matches similar to what the tournament will hold.

Trios Cash Cup tournament details

The weekend tournament consists of two days, similar to the World Cup Online Open Qualifiers. The Semi-Finals on July 13 are open to all players that reached the Champions League in Arena Mode (300 Hype points). The Finals are restricted to the top 1000 teams from each region based on performance in the Semi-Finals round. Players are restricted to participating in one region.

Overall, Epic Games has put up $1,000,000 for the global prize pool. The top teams will win prize money, which varies by region. The earnings and number of teams to win money also vary by region.

Scoring system

The Trios Cash Cup scoring system provides teams greater motivation to win games and focus on placements. The points per elimination remain the same as the World Cup but placement points increase.

  • Placement points
    • Victory Royale: 12 points
    • Top 2: 9 points
    • Top 4: 6 points
    • Top 8: 3 points
  • Eliminations: 1 point each

Times

Teams have three hours to compete with a maximum of 10 games played.

  • NA East: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm ET
  • NA West: 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm PT
  • Europe: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm GMT
  • Brazil: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm BRT
  • OCE: 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm AET
  • Asia: 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm JST

Arena Trios

In Arena Trios, the scoring focuses even more on placement. Teams are awarded six Hype points for a Top 8 placement. The total adds up to 15 potential placement points for the Arena mode. Unlike the Trios Cash Cup tournament, though, players are charged a bus fare when playing Arena mode. Each match players lose six Hype points to begin.

As for the community, they have welcomed the new Trio mode. Players hoped to see the game mode before Epic Games took their break in July. However, the developer chose to wait until their return. Now, competitors can hop into Trio mode to practice for the upcoming tournament.
