Fortnite Fall Skirmish – Week 1 | Format, prizes, new Clubs, and more

Week 1 of the Fortnite Fall Skirmish is upon us. Per usual, Epic is slowly doling out information just a day before the new tournament begins. Similarly to the Summer Skirmish, the Fall Skirmish will use revolving tournament formats and contestants. For the first week, the popular Hold the Throne format returns. Both Europe and North America compete tomorrow, Friday, Sept. 21, at 12:00 p.m. ET and 4:00 p.m. ET, respectively.

As with previous Fortnite tournaments, participants for this first Fall Skirmish require an invite from Epic. While we don’t know the official player list yet, it’s been revealed that a new Club system has been implemented. Upon joining, players are assigned to one of five Clubs for the skirmish. These designations will apply for the remainder of the six-week Fall Skirmish. The Clubs are as follows:

Fort Knights
Dusty Dogs
Rift Raiders
Lucky Llamas
Bush Bandits

Each week, players compete in a Competitive event and a Trial event. The Competitive event is more akin to the standard Summer Skirmish matches we’ve seen already, and thus requires an invite on a weekly basis to participate. However, any Club member can participate in the Trials and contribute to their Club’s overall success.

Fall Skirmish week 1 competitive event | Hold the Throne: Rules and prizes

For the first week of the Fall Skirmish, players involved in the Competitive event will compete to Hold the Throne. This format first debuted during the fourth week of the Summer Skirmish. Last time, Team Liquid’s NotVivid won the first day, while unsigned player Secret Domentos took first on the second. This time around, however, there are a few changes to both the scoring system and prizes. For this week, Hold the Throne participants will compete in duos across six matches. Players receive points for both Victory Royales and Eliminations, and the 10 duos teams with the most points at the end win prizes:

Victory Royale: +3 Points
2nd and 3rd Place: +2 Points
4th and 5th Place: +1 Point
8+ Eliminations: +3 Points
6-7 Eliminations: +2 Points
4-5 Eliminations: +1 Point
Hold the Throne (Most Eliminations in a Single Match): +2 Points

Prizes include both monetary rewards for the individuals as well as new “Club Points.” These Club Points compile over the course of the six-week season, and a reward will be awarded to each Club member. Based on the breakdown below, it appears each Club will have a total of 100 players.

1st place – $67,500 and 305 Club Points
2nd place – $47,500 and 215 Club Points
3rd place – $36,250 and 165 Club Points
4th place – $25,000 and 115 Club Points
5th place – $20,000 and 90 Club Points
6th place – $15,000 and 70 Club Points
7th place – $12,500 and 55 Club Points
8th place – $10,000 and 45 Club Points
9th place – $8,750 and 40 Club Points
10th place – $7,500 and 35 Club Points
Hold the Throne (Most Eliminations in any Match) – $50,000

Seasonal Club prizes

1st place – $15,000 per Club member; $1.5 million total
2nd place – $10,000 per Club member; $1 million total
3rd place – $7,500 per Club member; $750k total
4th place – $5,000 per Club member; $500k total
5th place – $2,500 per Club member; $250k total

Fall skirmish week 1 Trial | Squad Goals

However, there are additional opportunities for Clubs and their members to score points and earn rewards. For the first Fall Skirmish, the Club-based trial is dubbed “Squad Goals.” It’s essentially a rehash of previous Summer Skirmish challenges in which players compete for the most eliminations. The top squad with the highest amount of eliminations in a single match from each Club will earn prizes. However, this is open to all Club members, not just the ones competing in this week’s competitive Hold the Throne event. In addition, these Trials include their own relative monetary prizes and Club Points.

1st place – $45,000 and 325 Club Points
2nd place – $25,000 and 225 Club Points
3rd place – $15,000 and 180 Club Points
4th place – $10,000 and 155 Club Points
5th place – $5,000 and 120 Club Points

What to expect from the Fortnite Fall Skirmish

The Fall Skirmish is the latest official Fortnite Battle Royale tournament curated by developer Epic Games. This series will run for six weeks, coming to a conclusion at TwitchCon on Oct. 26-28. A total of $10 million USD will be awarded in prize money during this time. As mentioned earlier, each week of the Fall Skirmish will utilize a different tournament format. However, unlike the purely competitive Summer Skirmish, this new series will also incorporate “Entertainment play formats.” Epic teases, “Each week will pose new challenges like white-knuckle ATK races, masterful golf outings, mini-games, and of course high skill competition every weekend.” Unfortunately, the first week doesn’t incorporate any of these side-activities, instead focusing on eliminations.

In addition, a new in-game mode titled Showdown Royale is set to debut in early October. Though details are scarce for this new mode, it signals the arrival of an oft-requested in-game tournament system. Similarly to the previous Blitz modes incorporated during Season 5, Showdown Royale will allow the community an opportunity to compete and participate in future official events. Furthermore, this aligns with the conclusion of Fortnite Season 5, so players can expect to see some wide-scale changes on the island in the next week or two. Most recently, the mysterious, purple Cube, “Kevin,” dissolved into Loot Lake, changing the lake into a bouncy, purple substance.
