Coming from a primal-themed Season 6, the shift to a futuristic theme in Season 7 leaves its presence felt on the map. Everything from UFOs to actual aliens to futuristic weaponry, Epic Games has gone all out. However, it’s the map changes that players will immediately notice when hopping into a match for the first time.

Map differences in Fortnite Season 7

The biggest arrival to the Fortnite island in Season 7 is undoubtedly the giant UFO, or Mothership, in the center of the map. The trailer for the season showed this ship obliterate The Spire in the middle of the map, and it’s now taken its place. Below the Mothership is a crater filled with water and surrounded by purple goo.

While the Mothership is huge in size and a marvel to look at, it serves a purpose. If players run underneath it, they’ll be beamed up and have the chance to loot a Henchmen chest for 15 seconds. After this, they’ll be spat back out onto the map. Players can find the ship to the right of the Boney Burbs location.

In addition to the giant UFO hovering above the island, there are some strange landmarks scattered in various spots. These landmarks have the same purple substance that’s in the center crater, along with some new flora and a rock formation.

It’s unclear what these landmarks represent but it’s almost certain they serve some kind of larger purpose.

A mystery point of interest

Finally, there are a couple of new POIs for players to explore. In total, there are two new named POIs in Season 7. These are Corny Complex, replacing Colossal Crops, and Believer Beach, replacing Sweaty Sands. There’s a subtraction as well, with Stealthy Stronghold getting removed. Also, the aforementioned Boney Burbs is intact from Season 6 but has a new appearance altogether.

The Season 7 update introduced several other smaller changes to the map too. For example, a new unnamed POI was added that seems to be some kind of secret base or hideout. It somewhat resembles the classic factories location from the early days of Fortnite. However, most of the alterations take place in the center of the map.

Epic Games is likely to continue altering the map throughout Season 7, so expect more changes during the season.
