It’s official: NotVivid is the champion of the first day of Fortnite Summer Skirmish Week 4. Despite a slow start, NotVivid’s high eliminations and dual Victory Royales granted him the crown. This came after a nail-biting final match for NotVivid and Liquid Poach. Though Vivid entered the match with a lead on points, Poach had the chance to enter tie-breakers. To do so, he’d have to both win the match and earn four eliminations.

Unfortunately, despite winning the final match, Poach fell one elimination short. A separate prize, granted to the player with the most total eliminations, was awarded to Reverse2k. He secured the throne with nine eliminations. While this may not seem like a high number compared to prior tournaments, it’s due to today’s new match structure, explained below.

Fortnite Summer Skirmish Week 4 Hold the Throne Rules

About today’s tournament

Today’s tournament was hosted by Zeke “ZekimusPrime,” a returning host from previous weeks, and Nick “NickMercs” Kolcheff, a former tournament participant. As with week two of the Summer Skirmish, today’s events focused on solo matches, though the bracket format changed. Rather than having players queue into random lobbies, today’s tournament took place within a contained, private lobby, meaning contestants played against each other for every match.

Fortunately, it had better results and server stability than the last time this was attempted. Thanks to the smoother operation, today’s events allowed fans to focus on the high level of competitive gameplay on display. Despite a bug preventing the use of shopping carts and ATKs, high-profile players such as Ninja, TSM_Myth, NotVivid, and more joined in today’s point-based competition.

Hold the Throne Rules and Prizes

In case you missed the broadcast, this week’s skirmish variant is dubbed “Hold the Throne.” For this challenge, the first player to score eight or more points wins. Each Victory Royale earns a player two points, while second and third place are each worth one point. Meanwhile, any player who achieves at least four eliminations in a match earns an additional point.

  • Victory Royale: +2 Points
  • 2nd and 3rd Place: +1 Point
  • 4 or more Eliminations: +1 Point
  • Hold the Throne (Most Eliminations in a Single Match): +1 Point, $50,000

The last item, Hold the Throne, is actually a “floating point.” What this means is that the player with the highest amount of total eliminations holds that point, but they lose it once another player surpasses their elimination count. Think of it like the “Longest Road” Victory Point in Catan. On top of that, the player with the “throne” at the end of the tournament earns an additional $50,000. As mentioned earlier, today’s big winners are NotVivid and Reverse2K.

Next steps for the Summer Skirmish

The Hold the Throne tournament variant continues tomorrow with a new cast of contenders and fresh prizes. What were your favorite moments from the first day’s competition? Any standout plays?
