The newest Fortnite update, v11.40, is finally here after weeks of waiting. However, there are no official patch notes once again from Epic Games, leaving us in the dark as to what changed. Still, unless a change hasn’t been discovered yet, not much was added or removed with the v11.40 update. There was an addition to the Workbench system, Sidegrading, but it doesn’t look like anything else was added.

There are, of course, tons of leaks regarding cosmetics, but nothing like we’ve seen with previous updates. Maybe Epic Games is gearing up for Season 2, but let’s hop in and see what changed with the v11.40 update.

v11.40 Update adds Sidegrading, Heavy Assault Rifle

Fortnite Chapter 1 Season 1 hasn’t been a pinnacle of content by any stretch of the imagination. The game has gone weeks without a proper update, and Epic Games doesn’t even provide patch notes when an update does release.

Sure, there’s been some neat events, but very little content has been added that will stay in Fortnite. However, today’s update did add one cool new feature: Sidegrading. Since Chapter 1 released, fans have called for a change to the Workbench system. Well, today the Workbench received a bit of buff.

Now, when you have a regular Assault Rifle, you can trade it in for a Heavy Assault Rifle. You will need to trade in materials, with the number based on what rarity you’re exchanging. Sidegrading only works with rifles at the moment, but that could change in the future. Also, you can now find the Heavy Assault Rifle as floor loot and in chests.

New bugs with the new update

As with most Fortnite updates, there’s a major new bug with v11.40. As showcased by various streamers and creators, you can now shoot through wooden ramps. Before, if you shot through the little slits in the wood, you would damage the ramp instead.

This is obviously not meant to happen, so Epic Games should be working on a fix. When they will release a hotfix to resolve the issue is unclear.
