Fortnite World Cup Finals 2019 – How to Watch

The Fortnite World Cup Finals are just days away, and Epic Games just launched a neat new feature. On top of the other ways to catch it live, players can now tune into the broadcast while playing their own matches. Announced today via Epic’s blog is the new “PiP” (Picture-in-Picture) streaming. Basically, a window will appear in-game that lets you watch the finals while simultaneously participating in your own matches.

If it doesn’t distract you while playing, this should serve as a cool way to keep up with all the World Cup action this weekend. And if you would rather not watch the Finals in-game, you can, of course, check it out on other streaming sites.

How it works

Epic provided a simple description of how this service will work in the game.

Drop into the Fortnite lobby to begin your viewing of the Fortnite World Cup Pro-Am and Finals. You’ll see a “Watch Now!” button in the upper right corner of the lobby. Clicking this opens up a Durrburger mini-game while the PiP (Picture-in-Picture) video loads. When you’re ready, you can click the video stream to make it full screen.

Check up on specific players

The new PiP service will also allow you to watch a specific player in the World Cup. Under the Compete tab of the in-game lobby on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, you should find a section for the Fortnite World Cup Finals. You can then use the Leaderboard to select a player to follow and watch a replay of their performance.

Epic also provided a few details that they ask fans to keep in mind regarding PiP. First off all, PiP will be on by default for all players. If you want to kill the stream in the lobby, you can just close the window once, and the service will remember that you don’t want it playing. In-game, you can also go into the main menu and click the “Stop Video” button, as shown in the above image. If you wish to reopen PiP and continue watching the World Cup Finals, the main menu will have an option for that as well.

Epic also notes that only English audio will be available for this stream, with no subtitles or captions. Other language and subtitle options will be available on some other platforms (see below), but not in PiP. Additionally, they remind players that watching the stream in game will mean that you’ll be listening to both the World Cup’s audio and your own game’s. Hopefully you can deal with that mixture of sounds if you choose to use this service.
