Roughly a week after announcing her departure from the League of Legends European Championship (LEC), Indiana “Froskurinn” Black had some comments on diversity within esports broadcasting. Here’s what she had to say.
Froskurinn thinks esports broadcasting is “blindingly white”
In a tweet on January 18, the popular League of Legends caster states:
As always, very excited for the #LEC to begin and watch my peers continue to thrive. That team is f****** amazing.
That said, we really need to talk diversity in esports broadcasts because holy s*** that is a lot of white. Just blindingly white. As far as the eye can see: white.
While she is right that there certainly isn’t a lot of skin color diversity, especially in the LEC, there is a lot of representation from different countries. Trevor “Quickshot” Henry is from South Africa, Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere is from Belgium, and Laure “Bulii” Valee is from France, for example.
Outside of the LEC, there is a lot of Asian representation, especially in South Korea and China. Froskurinn is right about one thing, however, there aren’t many big black esports personalities within the League of Legends scene. Outside of League, the landscape is similar. Former Overwatch League host, Malik Forte, represents one of the only black esports broadcasters.
As always, very excited for the #LEC to begin and watch my peers continue to thrive. That team is fucking amazing.

Who is Froskurinn?
Froskurinn is a 29-year-old American who began her career in esports back in 2014 with appearances on several small esports talk shows. She joined the League of Legends Pro League (LPL) in 2015. In 2019 she made the swap to Europe to cover the LEC. This year, she decided to step down as a broadcaster for personal reasons.
She has been involved in League of Legends esports for a long time and is quite familiar with the scene. While she will surely have some critics for her comments, esports fans and personalities should take them into consideration.
