Berlin-based esports organization G2 Esports has emerged victorious in the 2019 League of Legends European Championship Summer Split Finals after defeating Fnatic. With this victory, G2 Esports has secured the LEC’s first seed for the upcoming 2019 World Championship. G2 Esports will also receive €80,000 for their victory.

LEC Summer Split Finals
G2 Esports took first place in the 2019 LEC Summer Split Standings with 15 wins and 3 losses. With this placement, G2 Esports proceeded to the Juggernaut round of the LEC Summer Playoffs, where they defeated Fnatic in a 3 – 2 match up.
Fnatic had another chance to proceed to the Finals in Round 3, where they swept FC Schalke 04. Although Fnatic was able to advance to the Finals, G2 Esports ultimately repeated history and defeated their opponents in the same match record ratio. G2 Esports and Fnatic won alternating matches until G2 took home the fifth match against their LEC rivals. However, this doesn’t spell the end for Fnatic.
Fnatic has already qualified for the 2019 Worlds Play-In Stage with their Championship Points. The London-based esports organization can also still qualify directly for the Main Event through the 2019 LEC Regional Finals. Fnatic will battle it out against the winner between FC Schalke 04 along with the victor from Round 1’s match with Origen Esports and Splyce. With Fnatic previously sweeping FC Schalke 04 in a 3 – 0 matchup, this should be light work for the organization.
G2 Esports
G2 Esports’ League of Legends roster currently consists of top laner Martin “Wunder” Hansen, jungler Marcin “Jankos” Jankowski, mid laner Rasmus “Caps” Borregaard Winther, bot laner Luka “PerkZ” Perkovic, and support player Mihael “Mikyx” Mehle. Substitute top laner Simon “Thebaus” Hofverberg and substitute support player Hampus “promisq” Abrahamsson are also on the roster.
After a disappointing season in 2018, with a 5 – 6th place finish during the EU LCS Summer Playoffs, G2 Esports still managed to win during the Regional Finals. After qualifying in the 2018 Worlds Play-In event, they were swept in the Main Event by Invictus Gaming in a 0 – 3 match up. The LPL team later went on to be crowned 2018 World Champions after beating Fnatic in a similar manner.
Since the 2018 season, G2 Esports replaced Kim “Wadid” Bae-in and Petter “Hjarnan” Freyschuss with Mikyx and Caps. Wadid ended up leaving to nearly-dead-last, 9th place LCS team FlyQuest. Hjarnan went to also-dead-last LEC team Excel Esports.
The European powerhouse then went on to overturn the LEC region. The roster placed 1st during the 2019 LEC Spring Split and Spring Playoffs. The team also went on to defeat Team Liquid 3 – 0 and take the Mid-Season Invitational. The North American vs Europe Rift Rivals event resulted in another pat on the back. The organization has since repeated their Spring results in the 2019 LEC Summer Split and LEC Summer Playoffs.
