Gen.G sign Chovy for the 2022 LCK season

He leaves Hanwha Life after one year and a Worlds 2021 quarterfinals appearance

Gen.G Esports announced Wednesday the signing of former Hanwha Life Esports mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon for the upcoming 2022 season. He will replace Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong as the organization transferred him over to Nongshim RedForce in exchange for their jungler, Han “Peanut Wang-ho, which was announced Tuesday.

Chovy is seemingly the final roster move for Gen.G, as the organization made a flurry of moves on Tuesday to cement the rest of their roster. Gen.G announced the signing of KT Rolster’s 2021 top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon and Afreeca Freecs 2021 support Son “Lehends” Si-woo. Park “Ruler” Jae-hyuk also re-signed for one more year with Gen.G, on Monday.

This new roster reunites Chovy and Lehends from their days at Griffin and brings back Peanut, who played for Gen.G in 2018. These signings make Gen.G one of the first League of Legends Champions Korea teams to finalize their player roster, although, Gen.G has yet to sign a coach for the 2022 season.

Chovy before Gen.G

Last season, Chovy played mid lane for Hanwha Life Esports and made the League of Legends World Championship as the league’s fourth seed. With the team, he placed fourth and eight in the spring and summer regular seasons, respectively. The team had a massive drop off in form in the spring split, but managed to qualify for the international tournament through the LCK Regional Gauntlet and placed second, losing 2-3 to T1 in the final.

Chovy and his Hanwha Life teammates started in the play-in stage of Worlds 2021 and breezed their way into the main event, only dropping one game throughout the entire stage, to Chinese squad LNG Esports. At the main event group stage, Chovy and his team placed second in their group to qualify for the knockout stage, after going 4-2. They were then promptly bounced from the tournament after losing to T1 again in the quarterfinals, 0-3.

Chovy will join Gen.G following their recent Worlds 2021 semifinals performance.
